FREE to all Sunday night Celestial Cinema double feature (Down the Barrel & Encounters at the End of the World) ticket holders.
A slacker is one thing you could never call Makana. But you can call him a Slack Rocker.
Building upon his roots as the keeper of Hawaii's slack key flame, Makana takes the centuries-old tradition and blasts it into the 21st century, much in the way that rock bands of the '60s and '70s updated traditional genres like blues and folk music.
"I'm constantly expanding my language so I can communicate with everyone," he says. "It's really a musical journey, an evolution. My music is about exploring." - Makana

The Seaside Cinema Lounge, the Maui Film Festival's toes-in-the-sand
'Town Center', is located on Wailea Beach between the Four
Seasons Resort and the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa.
The Seaside Cinema Lounge is an open-sided tent with stunning views of
the vast Pacific and Haleakala, is the perfect place for filmmakers to meet
other filmmakers and film lovers, as well as, if luck is with them that day,
potentially meet someone to finance, shoot, produce, direct, or perform
in their first or next project.
The Seaside Cinema Lounge is also home to the VIP 'Hot Spot', where attendees
with Comet, Galaxy, Cosmos and Big Bang Passes can enjoy complimentary
'mini' hand, foot and shoulder massages, check email and enjoy
the networking opportunities that VIP status includes.
Other Festival attendees and Wailea Resort guests can enjoy complimentary
publications of the Festival's media sponsors and other sponsorprovided
information, treats (including LUNA Bars) and
refreshments. This tent will also include the opportunity to learn more
about upcoming Festival events and screenings.
Daily 'Talk Story' sessions with selected filmmakers whose work is
screening at the 2008 Maui Film Festival will also take place at the
Seaside Cinema Lounge. Check it out every day between 10am-
4pm and remember that success in life and the film industry depends on
having a strong, passionate and supportive 'ohana (family) to help
manifest your dreams. |
