Tribute to Elizabeth Banks 2012, 10 min Elizabeth Banks has become one of Hollywood's most sought after and versatile actresses. Her upcoming films include What to Expect When You're Expecting and People Like Us. She can currently be seen starring in Lionsgate's The Hunger Games.

Superdad and Pele Directed By: Annette Saugestad Helland Norway, 2011, 10 min This animated children's book, using whimsical line drawings and cut-outs, illuminates a preschool-age boy's vision of his father. On weekends, that "S" on his chest means Superdad. On Mondays, that meaning shifts abruptly. Norwegian with subtitles.

People Like Us Directed By: Alex Kurtzman USA, 2012, 95 min Elizabeth Banks, our Navigator Award recipient this year, came out of indie films (opposite Seth Rogen, for example, in Zack and Miri Make a Porno) and has proven her mastery in both drama (as Laura Bush in W. and as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games) and comedy (Emmy nominated for best Guest Actress in 30 Rock).

To Heal An Island - Kaho'olawe Directed By: Stephan Boeker 2012, 14 min Anyone who has experienced Kaho‘olawe knows how deeply that tough, stark, and damaged island reaches into the soul and mind. Hard to capture on film, that feeling resonates in this report on a tree-planting expedition by volunteers from Four Seasons Resort Maui.

OXBOW Winter 2012 USA, 2012, 12 min This Maui-made short surf film follows the athletic hijinks of four of our greatest North Shore watermen. Two-time world champions Kai Lenny and Jason Polakow test their mettle against one of nature's greatest forces, Pe‘ahi, while Matt Meola and Levi Siver continue to push the limits of trickery. Some of the world's finest waveriders give us a taste of Maui's 2012 winter season.

H2indO Directed By: Brent Deal USA, 2012, 76 min Not a surf movie, this is a "SUP" movie—Stand-Up Paddling. SUP is a new sport—newly rediscovered, that is—and this footage, fresh from its premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival, does outstanding work to explain, celebrate, and defend its subject. Defend, yes, because the surf crowd has been known to hoot and shout at paddlers, call them "spoon goons," and try to chase them off the waves. But Dave Kalama, an iconic waterman featured in this story, just shakes his head. "They don't understand the sport. Paddling is a combination of everything I've ever done in the water." In fact, they say SUP is the fastest-growing sport in the world, partly because it's so easy to learn.
