Music Video: Early rehearsal for the title song

More pop fun from the U.K. with a musical charmer helmed by Stuart Murdoch, lead singer of the acclaimed Scottish indie band Belle and Sebastian.

Expanding on his proven skills with the production of music videos, Murdoch sets his debut feature in the dreamy, bohemian fantasia of Glasgow’s West End, where kids routinely break into song and dance.

A treat for the senses, thanks to the lyrical cinematography and the composer’s gift for crafting memorable tunes, this stylish film is elevated by a terrific cast.

Winner of a Special Jury Prize at Sundance, God Help the Girl stars the magnetic Emily Browning (Pompeii, Sleeping Beauty), Olly Alexander (Le Week-End, Gulliver’s Travels), and Hannah Murray (Game of Thrones) who play three misfits drawn together to create bubbly pop gems over the course of a languid summer.

A recovering anorexic who yearns for health and a successful singing career, Eve (Browning) bumps into James (Alexander), a sensitive, nerdy guitarist with “the constitution of an abandoned rabbit.” With the addition of posh music student Cassy (Murray), the trio set out to form a band.

Influenced by vintage pop movies like the Beatles’ A Hard Days Night, the director spins a disarming, humorous coming-of-age tale that’s an affectionate tribute to classic stage and screen musicals. All three leads are gifted singers, and their genuine talent enhances the film’s joyful spirit.
