THE HOAX
Director Lasse Hallström (Chocolat and The Cider House Rules) leads a cast starring Richard Gere, Alfred Molina, Hope Davis, Stanley Tucci and Julie Delpys in this dramedy about Clifford Irving, a charismatic and charming writer who persuades the world that he is the authorized biographer for the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. Entertainment Weekly raved "Gere is terrific at suggesting the kind of addictive cocktail of excitement, panic, chutzpah, creativity, and naked hunger for fame and megabucks that might inspire" such a caper. As those who saw it at the Celestial Cinema know, this is the kind of grand, passionate historical drama that no one seems to be able to pull off any more. A swirling, impressionistic portrait of an artist who regretted nothing, writer-director Olivier Dahan's La Vie en Rose stars Marion Cotillard as the legendary French icon Edith Piaf and Gérard Depardieu as one of the many men in her life. Roger Ebert enthused "One of the best biopics I've seen!" In French with English subtitles. PG-13. 140 min.

Molly Shannon, in a breakout performance, stars alongside Laura Dern, Regina King, John C. Anthropology and entertainment are marvelously married in this first feature in an Australian Aboriginal language, shot in breathtaking widescreen cinematography, which feels authentic to the core as it offers a take on tribal life that's set in a mythic, prehistoric past and is warm, funny and powerfully alive. Its mixture of wisdom and whimsy makes this movie feel as timeless as it is timely. It leaves us "genuinely intrigued, touched and amused" wrote the Washington Post. Unrated. 90 min.
