As the only cinematographer in the world who has been shooting time-lapse 24/7 continuously for well over three decades, Schwartzberg is a visual artist breaking barriers, connecting with audiences, and telling stories that celebrate life and reveal the mysteries and wisdom of nature, people and places.

Gina Rodriguez

2019 Navigator Award

The Navigator Award honors a film artist, still in the ascendancy of their career, who thrives on challenging expectations while delivering ever more brilliant performances every time opportunity knocks.

Perhaps best known for her Peabody Award winning lead role in “Jane the Virgin”.  Rodriguez is hero to another demographic as the voice and producer of the Netflix animated series “Carmen Sandiego” about a globe-hopping master thief, a franchise revived from great popularity in the 1980s and 1990s  She will star in a live-action project based on the character that’ been announced for the big screen.

She has most recently been seen in the Netflix romantic comedy “Someone Great”, with co-stars DeWanda Wie and Brittany Snow. 

 

Maya Erskine

2019 Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award honors a young film artist whose every role, even in his or her formative years, surprises, enthralls and delights audiences of every age.   

In a testament to her immense audience appeal, Maya’s latest film PLUS ONE recently received the Narrative Feature Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. she is also the co-creator/co-star of the critically-acclaimed series PEN15 on HULU. Erskine also plays the lead role in the Red Hour and Studio 71 feature films.

Each year the Maui Film Festival scans the constellation of cinema stardom to find talent in the ascendancy of their careers with an exceptional passion and drive to soar. This year, we are thrilled to honor Maya Erskine.

The Shooting Star Award honors an actor in a Maui Film Festival Hawaii Premiere whose breakthrough performance lights up the Big Screen at Celestial Cinema equally brightly as the Maui moon and stars light up the night.
 

Mr. Manganiello’s Shooting Star Award will be presented by, Sofía Vergara, his co-star in “Bottom of the 9th” at the Celestial Cinema prior to the World Premiere of the film.
 

Joe Manganiello is an actor, producer — of “Bottom of the 9th” — director, published author, and Emmy Award-winning narrator. Manganiello was most recently seen battling giant monsters in New Line’s “Rampage” with Dwayne Johnson, and in his debut as super-villain ‘Deathstroke’ during the end credits scene in Warner Brothers/DCEU’s “Justice League.”
Manganiello has just completed work on “Shoplifters of the World,” which his production company 359 also produced.

The award presentation and live and on the Big Screen Tribute to Awkwafina will be presented at the Celestial Cinema prior to the Maui Premiere, courtesy of A24, of the heartfelt, beautiful and universal story told in undone Film Festival crowd pleaser “The Farewell”.  

Awkwafina is an American actress, writer, rapper and musician from Queens, New York. Awkwafina, whose given name is Nora Lum, brings an impressive range of talent peppered with her signature flair, and has become a major breakout talent who has also lit up the silver screen in the box office blockbuster “Crazy Rich Asians”.
